We are offering a limited number of Safecast Air Quality Monitoring Stations for participation in the Safecast Air Quality (Particulate) Beta Testing Program. Similar to the Safecast Radiation Monitoring device, this air quality device includes scientific-grade sensors and GPS-logged data.
As a beta tester, you will be the very first to use Safecast's Air Quality Monitoring Station in the field and be on the forefront of one of the largest air quality collection projects on the planet. Read more about the Safecast project here.

This device is designed to be a static sensor, permanently installed in a single location with fixed power and internet for the data consumption. This model measures particulate (in PM10, PM2.5 and PM1.0) and environmental calibration data (temperature and humidity). The particulate sensor is made by Alphasense and trusted by the scientific community.
Important note: the data collected with these devices is for beta testing purposes only and will help Safecast develop the production version.
Beta Tester Objectives
The beta period is an exciting time to participate in the Safecast Air Quality program. During the beta period, you will join a small group of enthusiastic beta testers from around the world. Beta testers will get to:
- Assemble the device and become familiar with the sensors and components.
- Collect data for a minimum of 3 months and share with the Safecast beta community.
- Provide feedback on the build process and device usage.
- Ability to build the kit or have someone help you.
- Access to a location outside that is protected and safe for your device and accessible by you to check on the device. *These devices are not for indoor deployment.
- Wifi accessible.
- Make software updates from time to time.
Safecast is a global environmental sensor network enabling people to collect radiation and air quality readings and freely use and share the data collected.
Started after the Fukushima earthquake in 2011, Safecast has the largest collection of radiation data ever available spanning every continent on the globe. The project is driven by volunteers and citizen scientists everywhere, just like you.
Safecast believes that environmental data should be open, easy to access and easy to understand. They provide an open, free and public map of all submitted environmental data readings that can be accessed via browser or Safecast:drive apps.
1. Where must I be located to participate?
Anywhere. The more locations participating the better.
2. Can an organization or school participate?
Yes, anyone is welcome to participate in the beta testing program as long as they meet the requirements.
3. The cost of this kit is higher than the bGeigie Nano. Why?
This is an entirely different device than the bGeigie Nano with different senors and this is a beta kit.
4. How often can I move this device to get readings from multiple places?
For the length of the beta testing program - 3 months - we would like you to choose one location and leave your device there.
5. What is being measured with this device?
This device measures airborne particulate in sizes PM10, PM2.5 and PM1.0.
6. When will I get my kit?
You will receive your kit before the Beta program begins mid October 2016
7. Can I join after the program begins?
Yes, we will accept beta testers on a rolling basis
8. Can I participate in the discussion even if I don't have a kit?
Option - PCB requires soldering. For your convenience, the PCB comes with the SMT components soldered onto the board. You will start building the device at this step.
